Welcome to Jerusalem Hotel

Jerusalem Hotel, (formerly known as Jerusalem Guest House), is a friendly, family-run hotel, situated in the magnificent  town of Lallibela. The parent company is called Lasta Hotel & Tour Plc, and we have been operating since 2003.

All our rooms are equipped with en suite, toilet and shower and water heater, and a private verandah. The front of the hotel looks on to the dramatic scenery of Ashetun Mariam, while the verandas at the rear of the hotel provide stunning views of sunsets over the Semien Mountains.

Lalibela is home to what has rightly been described as The Eighth Wonder of the Word - a series of rock churches, carved out of the volcanic tuff some 800 years ago.

At the end of the 11^th and beginning of the 12^th centuries, King Lalibela sought to create a new Jerusalem, and the churches he built are all in use today, drawing pilgrims from all over Ethiopia, and visitors from all over the world.

For the visitor, Lalibela constitutes a unique experience - you can savor the ancient ceremonies of the Ethioian Orthodox Church, one of the oldest Christian Churches in the World, against the backdrop of the architectural splendor of the rock hewn churches.

In addition to the 11 churches found within the town of Lalibela, there are many more in the surrounding countryside, perhaps the most notable being the beautiful cave church of Yemrehane Christos.

The climate in Lalibela is always temperate, as it is located between 2450 and 2600 metres above sea level.

There are daily flights to and from Addis Ababa and other locations on the Historic Route, and by road, Lalibela can be reached in a day from Gondar, Bahir Dar and Mekele, and a day and half from Addis Ababa.

Our Services

We take care of you from the minute you arrive at the airport, until you depart on your outward journey, providing transfers in and out.Our staff are at the airport, are always ready to assist you, and you can be assured of a warm welcome from our hotel staff when you arrive.

We have our own guides and vehicles, and can make all tour arrangements for both the churches in Lalibela and in the surrounding countryside.

Restaurant

Our Bethelhem Hall (Restaurant) has an extensive menu, with a variety of both international and Ethiopian dishes. We try to source as many of our ingredients as possible from local farmers and producers, including fresh organic vegetables and grains.

We are always ready to arrange cultural shows in the evenings, when you can enjoy the songs dances of our region, and perhaps join in yourself!

For breakfast, try our locally made bread and the famous Lalibela honey!

Ethiopia is the birth place of coffee, and the coffee ceremony, when we roast and grind the coffee, is central to our culture and custom - experience this ceremony in our restaurant or outside in the courtyard.We provide internet services (they are dial up and slow, so be warned!) and express, same day laundry services.
